FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sonora, CA, January 4, 2007
AN EVENING OF OPERA YOU CAN WHISTLE AT A GALA VALENTINE FUNDRAISER FOR TEEN SUICIDE PREVENTION.
Contact: Dr. James Mosson at 209-536-3738 or Mr. Bruce Tepper at 209-536-1180 for event details.
The Sonora Sunrise Rotary in conjunction with the 49er Rotary is sponsoring "An Evening of Opera You Can Whistle" on Saturday, Feb. 10 as a Valentine Celebration at the Sonora Opera Hall. The evening includes a no-host reception at 6:00PM with elegant hors d'oeuvres at 7:00 for a fine dining experience, followed by the show at 8:00.
This special black-tie optional musical event will feature some stellar performers including:
Broadway artist, soprano Megan Starr-Leavitt will be returning to Sonora where she's performed for SRT in the lead role of Cinderella, in the Andrew Lloyd Weber program 3 years ago and the Rodgers and Hammerstein show last year presented by the Sonora Sunrise Rotary. Ms. Starr-Leavitt spent 3 years in the starring role of "Christine" in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera" with the national touring company (including performances in San Francisco) and on Broadway.
Joining Ms. Starr-Leavitt will be another SRT alumnus, Dr. Lee Strawn of San Francisco. Earning his Doctorate and Masters from the internationally renowned Eastman School of Music in New York, Dr Strawn has performed for the Pocket Opera, Diablo Light Opera, and the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival and for five years, in the San Francisco production of Phantom of the Opera!
Rounding out our vocal performers is Mr. Ricardo Campero, an up and coming Central Valley star who will bring an additional dimension to this exciting evening.
THE GOLDEN REGIMENT BAND will round out the evening with a stirring rendition of Richard Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries", one of opera's most memorable melodies.
"This will be the event of the season" says, Dr. James Mosson, coordinator of the evening for the Sonora Sunrise Rotary. "What else can anyone ask for: an elegant black-tie optional evening featuring the familiar tunes from the world of grand opera, performed by a stellar cast in a great setting with wonderful food", he adds. Proceeds will be donated to help local organizations fighting to prevent teen suicides.
There will also be a raffle with a painting by Dr. Charles Waldman, renowned Tuolumne County artist to help raise additional funds for teen suicide prevention.
Tickets are $50 per person and can be reserved by contacting Sally Dunn at Foothill Home Mortgage at 209-533-8411.
The Sonora Sunrise Rotary Club provides an opportunity for active members of the community to help people in Tuolumne County and around the world. For information on membership please contact Jerry Kahl at 209-532-5161.
