| The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to
support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the
Object of Rotary, Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world
understanding and peace through local, national, and international
humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs.
|
| The Rotary Foundation is a
not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary
International to achieve world understanding and peace through
international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.
It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and
friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
|
| The Foundation was created in 1917
by Rotary International's sixth president. Arch C. Klumph, as an
endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world." It has grown from an
initial contribution of US$26.50 to more than US$73 million contributed
in 2000-01. Its event-filled history is a story of Rotarians learning the
value of service to humanity.
|
| The Foundation's Humanitarian
Programs fund international Rotary club and district projects to improve
the quality of life, providing health care, clean water, food, education, and
other essential needs primarily in the developing world. One of the major
Humanitarian Programs is PolioPlus, which seeks to eradicate the polio virus worldwide.
|
|
|
| Through its Educational Programs, the Foundation provides funding
for some 1,200 students to study abroad each year. Grants are also awarded
to university teachers to teach in developing countries and for exchanges
of business and professional people. Former participants in the Foundation's
programs have the opportunity to continue their affiliation with Rotary as
Foundation Alumni.
|
| The Annual Programs Fund is the
primary source of unrestricted support for the programs of The Rotary
Foundation of Rotary International. The mission of the Annual Programs
Fund mirrors that of The Rotary Foundation: to support the efforts of
Rotary International in the achievement of world understanding and peace
through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and
cultural programs.
|
| The Annual Programs Fund supports
Foundation programs in 163 countries on seven continents. From digging clean
water wells for villages in Africa to teaching basic literacy skills to
children in Latin America. During any given moment in a day, thousands of
Rotarians volunteer their time and expertise to ensure that all
contributions given to the Annual Programs Fund are spent wisely on
quality Rotary projects.
|
| A full 100 percent of each
contribution to the Annual Programs Fund is spent directly on Foundation
programs that truly make a difference in the world.
|
| Contributions to the Annual
Programs Fund from "Every Rotarian, Every Year" support a variety of Rotary
Foundation programs that help improve the lives of impoverished people by
providing food, shelter, and medical attention. Support for the Foundation's
educational and vocational opportunities promote peace and world
understanding through Ambassadorial Scholars, World Peace Scholars, and
Group Study Exchange. Please become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member by
making your gift of US$100 or more to the Annual Programs Fund today.
